Upper Extremity Fractures

Traumatic injuries to the shoulder are not uncommon. These injuries usually involve the collarbone (clavicle), upper portion of the humerus, and the scapula. They are caused by contact to the area often resulting from a fall or collision.

A fracture to your elbow is known as an olecranon fracture. This is where the bony tip of your elbow is broken. Without much protection from muscles or other tissues, this can be broken easily if you experience a blow or fall directly to the tip of the elbow.

In most cases, both the radius and ulna are broken in a forearm fracture. These breaks can occur near the wrist, the middle of the forearm, or toward the top near the elbow. Forearm bones can fracture in several ways such as cracking slightly or breaking in many pieces resulting from a fall or direct blow to the forearm.
